Mule Deer
Mule deer hunting is our specialty. If the thought of hunting thousands of acres without running into another hunter appeals to you, this may be exactly the kind of hunt you’re looking for. With Ponderosa pine, ash, and cottonwood trees throughout the area, this region offers some of the most scenic and productive mule deer habitat in Eastern Montana.
Mule deer in this area spend much of their time in timber patches and brushy draws scattered across the landscape. Understanding how they move between feeding and bedding areas is key to a successful hunt, and our guides are familiar with the terrain and deer patterns throughout the season.
There are several effective methods for hunting mule deer here. Walking ridges, sitting, and still hunting can all produce results, but one of the most productive approaches is using a vehicle to cover large areas during the early morning and evening hours. This allows hunters to locate deer as they feed along the edges of cover.
Once deer are spotted, the spot-and-stalk method combined with careful glassing is typically the key to success. These hunts offer the opportunity to see a lot of country without requiring constant hiking from daylight to dark, making them a great fit for hunters who want a balance of mobility and comfort.
In addition to mule deer, you can expect to see a wide variety of wildlife throughout your hunt. It’s not uncommon to observe 50 to 100 deer in a single day. Our mule deer hunts consistently produce quality bucks ranging from 8 to 14 points and measuring between 20 and 30 inches wide.
Whether you’re an experienced hunter or looking for a classic Western mule deer experience, we aim to provide a hunt that is both successful and memorable.
